KINETIC VOLUNTEERS to help in the grueling, all day, general insanity of the 16th annual (soon-to-be-legendary) Kinetic Sculpture Race, for nothin' but the glory on SATURDAY MAY 3rd, 2014! Enjoy some food & refreshments while you learn more about the history of the race. From the American Visionary Art Museum—a race of wacky, imaginative, TOTALLY HUMAN-POWERED WORKS OF ART, DESIGNED TO TRAVEL ON LAND, THROUGH MUD, AND OVER DEEP HARBOR WATERS, constructed out of used bicycles, gears, and parts, created by a lunatic genius who tinkers around in the garage or backyard (do you know this person?)!


Salvaged Sculptures: student workshop with Allen Christian
Saturday, May 17 • 1pm–4pm • $35, $30 Members Open to students ages 12–18

ALLEN CHRISTIAN, creator of the amazing Piano Family on display in this year's main exhibition: Human, Soul, Machine: The Coming Singularity!, is bringing his expansive collection of salvaged piano parts to AVAM for this one-of-a-kind student workshop! Students will learn about Allen's creative process, and will explore the world of recycled art by making their own sculpture out of piano parts. Don't miss this opportunity!


Summer Solstice Sun Salutation Celebration
Saturday, June 21 • 9am • FREE! Please RSVP in AVAM's Jim Rouse Visionary Center Plaza

Join with thousands around the world to welcome Earth's longest day, the Summer Solstice, by performing the classic yoga movement of grace, the Sun Salutation. Charm City Yoga and AVAM present a free outdoor yoga workshop on Saturday, June 21, led by CCY Founder Kim Manfredi. All abilities and skills welcome. Bring your own yoga mat or towel.


MOSAICS with Rick Shelley
Saturday, June 21 • 10am–4pm $100, $75 Members

A One-Day MOSAIC WORKSHOP with Rick Shelley! Come and learn the ancient art of mosaic. You will get a chance to learn about a variety of techniques and walk away with your own finished piece of art. Supplies will be provided, and participants are welcome to bring some of their own (shells, buttons, glass, beads, pebbles, etc. are welcome), but please be sure to PACK A LUNCH.


July 4th Visionary Pet Parade
Friday, July 4 • 10am (9:30 pet registration) • FREE!

Dress your pet & strut your stuff. Animal fun! Animal prizes! Trophies awarded for Best Costume, Most Patriotic, Most Visionary Pet, Owner & Pet look-alikes, Least likely to succeed as a Pet, Visionary Pet Tricks and more! Friendly pets of ALL kinds are welcome. The best dog-gone parade in town! Followed by the Pet Talent (Or Not) Show! And Sit, Stay for a rousing game of pet musical chairs! Pets must be leashed or carried. H20 and baggies provided.


Flicks From The Hill
Thursdays: July 10–Aug 28 • FREE Screenings @ 9pm on Fed Hill • AVAM Open & Free 5-9pm on Flicks nights

Grab a blanket, picnic under the stars, and watch a great film selection inspired by AVAM's current exhibition, Human, Soul & Machine: The Coming Singularity! The Hughes Family Outdoor Theater features seating for more than a thousand on the natural amphitheater formed by Federal Hill; a 30-foot wide screen held from above by a Giant Golden Hand; a twinkling view of the city; and an amazing community experience that is FREE.


Saturday, August 16 • 11am–2pm $50, $35 Members

Join the creator of the Blinged-Out Universal Tree of Life (outside of AVAM's Main Entrance) in making your own FLASHIES: dynamic, sparkling decorations made from mirrors and marbles and such. Each participant will receive instruction on cutting and assemblage and will leave this workshop with at least two finished decorations to keep and dangle. For beginning and continuing students.
