AVAM celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

Celebrate Dr. King's vision with AVAM! We're Open & FREE 10am–6pm!

A celebration in honor of the life and dreams of one of the greatest visionaries in America's history. Join us for guided tours, birthday cake, music, special performances, workshops, and even more exciting entertainment at this FREE fun-filled day at AVAM! The museum is FREE & open to the public from 10am–6pm! Tour our latest exhibition THE ART OF STORYTELLING, and experience all the sights throughout our wonderland campus including the entire Jim Rouse Visionary Center & more! A special invitation extended to educators and all the wonderful people who help to empower the next generation! Teachers, come pick up our educational materials and discover the many educational offerings we have available for you and your students.

MLK DAY 2013 SCHEDULE:

  • All day: Watch MLK's "I HAVE A DREAM" Speech (3rd fl. JRVC)
  • 11am-3pm: Happy Birthday Crown-Making Workshop (while supplies last, 2nd fl. classroom JRVC )
  • 12pm: Happy Birthday MLK CAKE cutting (3rd fl. JRVC)
  • 3pm-4pm: Interactive Dance & Drum performance by KEUR KHALEYI AFRICAN DANCE COMPANY (1st fl. JRVC)
  • Throughout the day: FREE Docent-led tours of AVAM's current exhibition THE ART OF STORYTELLING (Main Building)
