AVAM seeks an (collections management) intern to work with the Registrar and gather experience in Collections Management and Exhibitions museum work. This is an unpaid internship available for school credit. Internship is to be 150 hours over the course of May-July. Internship will explore the below aspects of museum collections work.


  • Database: Training in upkeep of Collections Management database system, PastPerfect. Intern will assist in digitization project of scanning files and photos.
  • Archives: Organization of museum institutional archives of various media including correspondence, photographs, and film.
  • Storage: Working at offsite storage site with training in proper handling and housing of artwork for long term storage.
  • Exhibits: Assisting with registration duties in preparation for two upcoming AVAM exhibits. Some installation work included.
  • Conservation: Creating condition reports and doing regular gallery checks and cleanings including artwork on display both indoor and outdoor.

Job Skills/Attributes:

  • Fine hand skills and a background in art.
  • Knowledge of outsider art a plus.
  • Interest in and knowledge of Collections Management and Exhibits work.
  • Some museum experience preferable.
  • Strong attention to detail. Demonstrated filing experience and skills.
  • Proficient in use of PCs, Macs, scanners, and various formats of digital images. Experience in PastPerfect a plus.
  • Innovative thinking and ability to adapt to working with unconventional materials.
  • Creative, adaptable, and committed to working as a team player.
