The American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM)’s Development Department is a fast-paced environment that manages all fundraising initiatives, including annual giving, public and private grants, sponsorships, planned giving, major gifts, fundraising events, and AVAM’s membership program.

The Development Department at AVAM is seeking an undergraduate student to assist with the daily operations of the Department and special projects. Tasks will include data entry, grant research, proposal preparation, and support for the museum’s events, including the Flicks from the Hill outdoor film series. The Development Intern will have a hands-on roll in helping to successfully execute Flicks programing.

This internship is available to undergraduate students studying art history, art education, museum studies, communications, public relations, marketing, or arts administration, and students interested in pursuing a museum career.

Internship candidates should:

  • have a friendly personality and effective communication skills,
  • possess excellent writing skills,
  • be detail-oriented and organized, and
  • have strong research skills.
Interns must be able to attend Flicks from the Hill on Thursday evenings from approximately 4 pm to 9 pm.


The internship position will require approximately 6-12 hours a week which can be adjusted to meet the student’s schedule. Start and end dates are flexible.
Start date: Monday, June 11, 2018
End date: Friday, August 31, 2018
This is an unpaid internship, but course credit can be applied if appropriate.
