The American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM)’s Development Department is a fast-paced environment that manages all fundraising initiatives, including annual giving, public and private grants, sponsorships, planned giving, major gifts, fundraising events, and AVAM’s membership program.

The Development Department at AVAM is seeking an undergraduate student to assist with the daily operations of the Department and special projects. Tasks will include data entry, grant research, editing/proofreading, and special event support.

This internship is available to undergraduate students studying art history, art education, museum studies, communications, public relations, marketing, or arts administration, and students interested in pursuing a museum career.

Internship candidates should:

  • have a friendly personality and effective communication skills,
  • possess excellent writing skills,
  • be detail-oriented and organized, and
  • have strong research skills.


The internship position will require approximately 6-12 hours a week which can be adjusted to meet the student’s schedule. Start and end dates are flexible.
Approximate start date: Monday, September 10, 2018
Approximate end date: Friday, December 14, 2018
This is an unpaid internship, but course credit can be applied if appropriate.
