The American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) is the national repository for self-taught artistry and intuitive thinking. AVAM is dedicated to our Educational Goals and inspiring visitors to seek their own creativity and recognize wonder in the world around them. 


Overview:

The American Visionary Art Museum is seeking a dynamic, organized and creative person for a contract position of Teaching Artist. This position will collaborate with both AVAM’s Education Team and the librarians at the Baltimore County Library to lead free After School art workshops for students at the library. This is a contract position that is grant funded. 


Responsibilities:

  • Lead weekly art programs at the Woodlawn library for students.

  • Teach students about visionary art and artists.

  • Represent AVAM, answer questions and be a spokesperson for our programming.

  • Support students in their creative endeavors, encourage them and build up confidence.

  • Gather information for evaluating the programs.

  • Coordinate with AVAM’s Education Team regarding supplies and weekly curriculum.

  • Report to the Education Team about progress, supplies and feedback.

  • Document projects and workshops at the library.

Wednesdays from 3-4:30 PM

  • April 9

  • April 23

  • May 14 - final art showcase!


Pay:

  • $40 per session

  • $360 total

qualifications
  • Experience teaching and working with students.

  • Experience as an artist and comfortable working with unusual materials

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability.

  • Experience with public speaking.
